Quedlinburg: Fairytale Old Town & Hidden Courtyard Markets 🎄🏰

About this trip

Imagine a whole town that looks like a Christmas card. Quedlinburg, at the edge of the Harz mountains, is one of the best-preserved medieval towns in Germany. Its old town, the castle hill and the collegiate church are a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the town has more than 2,000 half-timbered houses from six centuries.

In Advent the town does something special. During “Advent in den Höfen”, private courtyards that are normally closed open their gates. Behind the old wooden doors you’ll find small stalls, crafts, mulled wine, music and candlelight, each courtyard with its own character. On top of that there’s the Christmas market on the market square in front of the historic town hall.

We take the regional train from Berlin together in the morning, walk through the old town and up to the castle hill for the view over the rooftops, then drift from courtyard to courtyard as the lanes light up in the late afternoon. It’s a long but relaxed day: warm drinks, good conversation and new friends. Join us for the day out in fairytale town Quedlingburg. Everyone is welcome.
